Alternative drive train concepts

The fourth work package focuses on the analysis of innovative drive train concepts in order to increase the economic efficiency and the technical availability of wind turbines.

In the first step, presently existing concepts are analysed based on a market study and evaluated regarding economic and technical criteria. This evaluation is used to derive the requirements for new drive train concepts. Afterwards, new concepts are devised and evaluated both technically and economically in cooperation with the project partners.

The basis for the evaluation is provided by simulations with hybrid calculation methods, e.g. multi-body, field and grid simulations. The efficiency factor and vibrations in the drive train are the evaluation parameters.

The conclusion of the work package consists of the realisation of different concepts as well as the testing and validation on the system test rig. The results from the simulation and test runs allow an objective evaluation of the economic efficiency of the different drive train concepts.
